Wow. That was a fascinating discussion. From a 50k ft perspective, given the way the Ukr project appeared (ie, lunatic level) and now the US reaction to this Israeli situation, it seems like the US is seeking a global negotiation over the division of global power. That negotiation could come either before or after a war, but one way or another, we’re seemingly going to have a next generation Yalta. So, perhaps instead of viewing this as US willingness to sacrifice the Palestinians, it’s actually some far bigger initiative, with a lot of Texas Hold ‘Em taking place.
I cant really judge Chinese or Russian true ambitions here because I’m just too ignorant of all the history. But, what I am sure of, is that Europe and the UK, because of their obvious depravity, do not deserve and should be excluded from this table. As that currently does seem to be the case, if intentional, that is a very good thing.
This entire discussion is a great reminder that all knowledge is provisional, and certainly less than complete, so getting stuck in your views and opinions is often going to take you to the wrong place.
Thank you, sir. I really enjoyed that talk with Joaquin, he’s a wealth of knowledge and sound thinking/analysis.
I’mglad you enjoyed it!
Hi Tom,
Often in your discussions the question comes up: “who is running the United States”? With that in mind I was trying to find a situation in the past where something similar happened. I finally ran into a book that might be of interest to those trying to answer that question:
Japan 1941: Countdown to Infamy
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40184415-japan-1941
In summary, Japan ended its democratic parliamentary government due to the turmoil of the Great Depression and went to a “caretaker” mode structure of randomly appointed ministers. Emperor Hirohito (like Joe Biden) was a figurehead with no real power, so governing the country was left to mid-level / mid-wit bureaucrats and the separate departments of the army, navy, foreign ministry, etc ..all acting independently.
Japan got into the Axis alliance, not knowing anything about what was going on Europe, but because the foreign minister thought it would help in negotiating with the United States, not knowing how much Roosevelt detested the Nazis at that point. Then he signed a non-aggression pact with Stalin, two months before Hitler invaded Russia, thinking they were engineering an Italian-German-Russian-Japanese axis as a balance against the US and UK. And they just bumbled along like that until Pearl Harbor, with no vision, no one in charge and no mandate to govern. Ironically, most of the government was Ivy League educated, admired America, and wanted Japan to follow the “American model” …which explains the easy acceptance of post-war American occupation.
I know the answer for many is that Obama is pulling the strings, but if you look at the resources required to pull off the “2020 decapitation”, there had to be many, including Obama, contributing to that (Neocons, Trans-Atlanticists, Rinos, etc). If so, then what we may be witnessing is a rerun of the pre-war Japanese government. (?) The book shows it is possible to run a government where literally no one is in charge, no one has a mandate to govern and no one is held responsible.
So, some might take some comfort in that we are in “charted uncharted” territory. It seemed like “R” above was trying to figure what the US objective was, but it could be that there simply is no objective.
Anyway, I just thought I would post this as “food for thought” concerning the question.
