Xoaquin Flores returns to the podcast to discuss the ins and outs of Donald Trump’s recent moves in Venezuela and Iran. We try to unpack what Trump’s agenda really is and go over the mechanisms for how he advances it. Given Trump’s mercurial but hyper-rational behavior, it’s no small task.

LMFAO that you just realized the existence of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon islands off the coast of Newfoundland ( They’re not really in the Saint Lawrence River )
My God, just weeks ago it seemed so nonsensical and now it seems so obvious. It’s all about Russia. How did Trump get Russia to turn away as he wrecked their newly minted military ally? He put their own interests on the table. First he holds out an olive branch allowing Russia to sell oil to India to fill their shortage. Now, Russia is negotiating with him to replace supply to Europe. Strait of Hormuz? Who cares? Russia goes right down the Suez canal, outside the conflict. Hello Chinese market. Talk about a bargaining chit. Trump said the war is basically over and they are acting like he is nuts. But think about it. He takes out Iran’s ability to hit US targets and walks. Israel and Iran can fight their war of attrition and he can rake in the cash arming Israel. Meanwhile he leaves the rest of the middle east forced to go to war with Iran to move their own oil. All the while he lifts Russian sanctions to avoid a global shortage and the west barely feels it. Down the line, when the other gulf states eventually take Hormuz, all the better. All those tankers sitting in the water sail out and crash oil prices for years. Plus, lifting the Russian sanctions means he has a fresh set of favors that need repaying when negotiating the war in Europe. By now the democrats see it, Trump is reaching for the crown jewels of today’s geo-politics. They will make it rain monkey wrenches on his plan and fight for sanctions like they are their life’s blood. But how the hell do you sell a global energy shortage to the public? This one I want to see. If this goes the way it was obviously meant to, what a move.
